DAR ES SALAAM: ALAF Limited, part of the Safal Group and a leading building solutions provider in Tanzania and East Africa in general, has today launched its multibillion state of the art colour coating line in Dar es Salaam.

The over $25 million investment is set to revolutionize the construction sector and save the country over $ 190 million over five years.

Launching the facility, the Minister for industry and Trade, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Jafo lauded ALAF Limited for the bold move that is a major milestone not just for ALAF but for the whole country since the product will be used by all Tanzanians.

“This is commendable indeed and as government we will do everything possible to protect this investment and ensure that it yields the anticipated results especially considering that the government is an ALAF shareholder,” he said.

He further reiterated that the government will protect local industries against cheap imports. Instructing relevant authorities such as TBS to tighten their operations accordingly. “We cannot have such huge investments and at the same time allow cheap importation yet we have our own industries here.”

He also lauded the management for completing the project within the stipulated time and for opting to use local engineers to run the new colour coating line. “This is a commendable move as it goes in line with the government’s initiative to empower youth and increase employment while building ‘Tanzania ya Viwanda’.”

The SAFAL Group CEO Anders Lindgren commended the government for ensuring a conducive business environment for investors. “It is through this that we as SAFAL Group see the need to invest more,” he said.

He further noted that it has been a great journey to have this facility running today and we thank the Tanzanian government for making it easier and assuring us maximum support to ensure the project is a success.

“To us as SAFAL Group it is all about quality, standard, safety and value for money for our customers that is why we do not just sell but rather give building solutions wherever we operate,” he added.

The ALAF Limited CEO Mr. Ashish Mistry, said the new plant in place, Tanzania does not need to import iron sheets anymore as it can meet the current demand of 130,000 tons per year. With this investment ALAF carries a 75,000 MTPA which is over 50% of the market demand.

“We urge Tanzanians to go for quality as what we are producing here guarantees you durability for generations and generations. Let us avoid low standard roofing material that requires replacement after a short period of time,” he stressed adding that they will continue working closely with relevant stakeholders to fight counterfeit products.

“The core focus of this project is the seamless integration of the cutting-edge Continuous Colour Coating Line within our manufacturing facility,” he said adding that the advanced line will employ a superior paint system to coat Alu-Zinc coils which ensures exceptional durability and resistance to external elements including the harsh Marine Environments existing in the coastal regions of Tanzania.

He said before the launch, there have been enough trials and different stakeholders were invited to verify the quality of the product before full production. “We are working very closely with your ministry through TBS, FCC, OSHA, NEMC as well as other stakeholders,” he noted.

Today, ALAF, which started operations in Tanzania in 1960, offers complete Building Solution which includes Pre-painted and Alu-Zinc coated Roofing products, Pipes and Sections, Cold-rolled products, Light gauge Steel trussing and framing solutions, Cold Formed Pre-Engineered Buildings and Structural Steel products.
